Zoya Shawn

Wednesday, February 29, 2012
Today is a super quick post. I have an exam at 8 p.m. and then one tomorrow. Yuck.
Anyway, Zoya Shawn is one of those colors that I debated purchasing for a long time. Boy am I glad I did! What a freaking gorgeous green!

Two easy coats, no topcoat.

I only own a couple of greens, but this is my favorite!
What is your favorite green polish?

Zoya polishes can be found on Zoya's website. They sell for $8.

Across the Universe

Tuesday, February 28, 2012
"Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup | They slither while they pass, they slip away Across the Univerrrrse" - The Beatles.

Yes, I love them. Who doesn't? I also loooooved the 2007 film Across the Universe.

Today I have Deborah Lippmann's Across the Universe. It is such a fabulous glitter. The glitter is suspended in a deep blue jelly like finish. It is tinted enough to wear a few coats on its own, but I decided to wear it over Zoya Charla.

Deborah Lippmann polishes usually retail for $16 or $18. She just recently released a magnetic line that quickly sold out on QVC.

Devious Nature

Monday, February 27, 2012
Ohmygosh. I recently gained my first EVER bottle of Cult Nails polish. A fellow blogger, Steph, from Imperfectly Painted was having a blog sale. She had Devious Nature for a pretty good price. I swooped in on that, baby. I also bought OPI's Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees.

Really, I just wanted to know what all of the hype was about. DN did not let me down. It was one of the best applications I have ever had. I didn't even have to do clean up! (Or maybe I'm just getting better at painting my nails. lol).

For these pics I used two coats but I think you can get away with just one. Let me tell you, this color shines!

I liked the way it looked next to my jeans for some reason.

Horrbible pattern attempt.
Maria makes and sells Cult Nails at They retail for $10.

Revlon Whimsical

Sunday, February 26, 2012
Today I have the notorious Whimsical by Revlon on my nails. It is notorious because it is hard to find in some stores and it is a dead-on dupe for Deborah Lippmann's "Glitter in the Air."

I used two coats of Whimsical over one coat of Zoya Kristen.

While Whimsical can be slightly irritating to put on, just go slow and try to use a thicker coat. When I started, I used really thin coats and didn't get very much glitter. After the first few nails, I just grabbed a bit more polish on the brush for the rest.

I don't have DL's GITA, but I have seen a lot of dupe posts comparing the two. If you can find Whimsical, go for it. It is only 5 dollars compared to 18.

I found mine at Rite Aid, but it should be anywhere Revlon nail polish is sold.

Zoya Kelly

Saturday, February 25, 2012

Today I have Zoya Kelly! A must have for any polish lover. Application was flawless. Two coats for the pictures. I just LOVE this color. I'm a dark grey/black polish addict though! Haha

Just so you can see the more "black" undertone.

Tuxedo Nails (in 5 minutes)

Friday, February 24, 2012
This is a super quick post. A few months ago a friend on Facebook suggested I try tuxedo nails after Zooey Deschanel's mani went viral.

Here are my tuxedo nails. I seriously finished these in less than 10 minutes. My guess would be in about 5. The pointer and ring fingers are like the ones Zooey D. had. I used Zoya Purity and a black Kiss striper + a dotting tool.

Sorry for the lack of pictures! I took it off before it had time to dry.

And by NO MEANS am I saying these are perfect. I can redo them to be cleaner and a bit more pretty if you would like!

If you want to know how I did them, comment on the post to let me know! I can also post a tutorial if you want me to as well!

Tape Mani

Thursday, February 23, 2012
So I saw a pin on Pinterest awhile ago with a similar mani with different colors. I know this has been done a million times, but who cares?!

For this mani: scotch tape, base coat, Nerd Lacquer Warrior Ethos as the base and Wet n Wild's Black Creme as the second coat, Seche Vite top.

I absolutely love Warrior Ethos. It is one of my favorite polishes. These turned out pretty cute!

What do you think? Do you like tape manis? Do you like Warrior Ethos?

Starry Pink (Popular)

Wednesday, February 22, 2012
Today I have swatches of Revlon's Starry Pink (renamed Popular). I wore SP over Julep - Carrie. I enjoyed the color! It softened Carrie even more (if that's possible).

This is one thick coat of SP.

I had to take pics near my sliding glass door to the most accurate color. I would have gone outside, but it was 20 degrees and windy. brr! Thus, the weird background. Sorry!

What is your favorite Revlon color?

Tuesday, February 21, 2012
Today I have swatches of Zoya Midori. This is such a fabulous green. It's so juicy and beautiful.

This is a quick post. Classes start again (yuck). Back to the daily grind!

All photos have two coats, no base or top. Midori went on like a charm.

What do you think? I love it.

Galaxy Nails

Monday, February 20, 2012
When I first got back into doing nail stuff, I tried out galaxy nails. They were awful! My nails were super short (nubbins), and I even took the pic after a little bit of grow out. My nails were STILL nubbins after grow out.

Anyway, here are my updated galaxy nails. I might show you the old ones at the end of the post. Maybe. =]

Kitchen light, no flash

Ok, ok. Here are the old ones. Eek!

Haha. Yeah, I know. I'm not going to post all of the polishes I used. If you want to know which ones were used and a comment!

Splatter Mani

Sunday, February 19, 2012
I tried my first splatter mani the other day. Needless to say, I won't be doing it again any time soon. I love the look, but NOT the mess. I should have taped my fingers; I definitely won't forget to next time.

I started with a base of Zoya Robyn and then splattered with Zoyas Pippa and Purity with a drinking straw that was cut in half.

Left Hand

What is the messiest nail art you have done?

I received my first Julep Maven box last month. Overall, the two colors that were sent to me are actually pretty nice!

With this box, I have found a love for pink polishes! The bombshell box included: Carrie, a light-to-sometimes-bubblegum color and Megan, an aquamarine that is slightly shimmery/metallic. It also came with a lightening hand lotion (which I love).

Without further ado, here are the pics!

Julep - Carrie

This is two thick coats (I messed up a nail, that's why they are thick)
I absolutely love this pink. I usually hate all pinks. Because of Carrie, I went out and bought more pink colors! =] Carrie is a bit tricky to work with due to thickness, but if patience and a steady hand are on your side, you'll be fine!

Natural Light

Julep - Megan

I like Megan too, despite the little issue I had with brush strokes showing. It is a nice mermaid color! Two thinnish coats for opacity. =]

Do you like Julep's Maven program? I'm not sure if I can afford to do the $20 box every month right now. We'll see!

Zoya Robyn

Saturday, February 18, 2012
Today I have swatches of an amazing and vibrant color. Zoya Robyn! Seriously, if you like over-the-top, bright, cheery nail colors, this is a must. Robyn catches your eyes every time you move a finger.

Zoya describes it as "the perfect turquoise cream." The site also says it has a medium opacity. I think different. I had full coverage in almost one coat! I used two for the pictures.

This is one of the most accurate.
Forgive the different lighting of the pictures. It was hard to capture the true, in real life (IRL) color.
I found that taking pics in this exact location in my kitchen got the best result!

Bathroom, low light

This isn't accurate at all, but I love how it looks here. lol Low light w/flash.

Indoor, night, no flash
This color is so gorgeous. It is part of Zoya's Flash collection. If you are looking for a bright blue, especially for those with cooler skin tones.
